These are unprecedented times, and students are being hit with so much information until it can become overwhelming for them to try to sort out everything on their own. We are here to support you and provide you with the resources you need to make an informed decision.

As we shift to a more virtual world, we created this webpage to share valuable information to assist you in the college & career-going process. The information on this webpage will be constantly updated, so please check back often.

Please know we are here as a resource and want to help you get to college, but if college isn’t your thing, there are many other options for you to consider.

Postsecondary Outreach Information

We are living in a fast-paced world and we know that students don’t have a lot of time to read information beyond schoolwork. Videos may be more appealing!

Go ahead, click on the hyperlinks below to gain valuable and relevant information. We will add more videos in the coming weeks!

Naviance, the district-wide college and career readiness platform is available to all high school students. Within Naviance you can search for scholarships, build your resume, complete career assessments, compare college cost and benefits, take a free online SAT test prep, send your transcripts to colleges and universities across the country, and so much more!

DeKalb County School District high school students can access Naviance three ways:

  1. Open a web browser and type in id.naviance.com.
  2. Open a web browser and type in student.naviance.com.
  3. Open VERGE (or Launchpad) on your district issued device.

You will need to search for your school, use your “S” number, or dekalbschoolsga.org email to login. If you have any questions on how to access your student account, please contact your School Counselor or Postsecondary Transition Specialist.

Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment is a Georgia House Bill 444 Law, the newest revision has passed by both the House and Senate on March 3, 2020, and signed by Governor Kemp on April 28, 2020.

HB 444 defines the following as the program objectives:

  • Promote and increase access to postsecondary educational opportunities for Georgia high school students.
  • Increase high school graduation rates.
  • Shorten the time and cost to postsecondary credential completion.
  • Prepare a skilled workforce.

Student Eligibility
  • A student must be enrolled in and physically attending a participating eligible public or private high school in Georgia or an eligible participating home study program in Georgia.
  • A student must be approved, by the participating high school or home study program at which he or she is enrolled, to participate in dual enrollment.
  • Prior to participating in Dual Enrollment, as part of the application process, the student and student’s parent/guardian must complete the Student Participation Agreement (SPA).
  • A student must have completed the admission process and been accepted and approved by the participating postsecondary institution.
  • All postsecondary coursework must be completed prior to high school graduation or home study completion in order to receive Dual Enrollment credit and funding.
9th Grade 10th Grade 11th & 12th Grades

  1. If approved, can take any CTAE courses listed in Course Directory.
  2. If approved, with minimum SAT 1200 or minimum ACT 26, can take any courses listed in the Course Directory. If approved, can attend any participating postsecondary institution.
  3. If approved, student enrolled in Dual Enrollment during 2019-2020 school year can take any courses listed in the Course Directory. If approved, can attend any participating postsecondary institution.

Special Event Summer Transition Center - FINAL

The Student Advancement Department’s 4th annual Summer Transition Center (STC) will be live and on the MS Teams virtual platform. The STC will be hosted by your Postsecondary Transition Specialist team in collaboration with local and national non-profit organizations, college and university representatives from across the country, and workforce development agencies.

Due to the pandemic and abrupt halt to the school year, we understand that many seniors are left wondering what to do next. STC is designed to address Summer Melt, a phenomenon where “college-intending” students who complete key steps to the process but fails to transition successfully to college due to lack of follow-through, meeting deadlines, submitting deposits, or lacking financial aid. We also know that some students may not have the desire to attend college immediately after high school and not quite sure what they want to do. This is for you too!

Seniors can “join” the morning sessions with their region and speak directly with a Postsecondary Transition Specialist about any of the recent changes due to COVID19 to the college admissions requirements, waivers, application process, freshmen orientation, and career options. The afternoon sessions are open to all seniors to learn about key topics presented by college representatives across the country.

  • Review for understanding Financial Aid Award Letter
  • Complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
  • Use Naviance to send Transcripts

Are you tired of visiting each college or university website to find information, but still getting lost? Well, we’re here to make your college-going search a little easier.

Colleges and universities may offer summer enrichment programs. The programs provide additional engagement and experiences on their campuses before you make a final decision.
There are many national organizations that are stepping up to create a virtual college fair & tour experience. Check them out!

GAfutures.org provides valuable information to assist you with your postsecondary choices, scholarships, Dual Enrollment, financial aid, and so much more. You can also locate their easy-to-follow checklist for each grade level to track your progress and keep yourself on task.

College and Career Readiness Programs
  • One Goal is working to create a world where all students can earn a college degree and define their future.
  • College AIM transforms school communities in Metro Atlanta by thoughtfully guiding and fiercely supporting every student to and through his or her post-secondary path – including technical college, two-year colleges and four-year institution.
  • REACH Scholars are selected in middle school and sign a contract along with their parent/guardian to maintain a 2.5 HOPE-Calculated GPA, remain crime, drug, and behavior issue free, and meet with a volunteer mentor and academic coach until they graduate from high school. To be awarded this $10,000K scholarship, each Scholar…” Remove the last sentence “If a student does not fulfill program standards, they risk losing their $10,000 scholarship. Include a sentence about matching funds. “Some institutions even match the $10,000 scholarship, so students can earn even more!”
  • Georgia State University LIFT was created to continue improving these outcomes by combining data-driven academic advisement with scholarships, employment opportunities, leadership training and more to help students from every background stay on track for graduation. LIFT forms an integrated suite of student success programs to take students from high school to college graduation.
  • Posse believes that the leaders of the 21st century should reflect the country’s rich demographic mix. The key to a promising future for our nation rests on the ability of strong leaders from diverse backgrounds to develop consensus solutions to complex social problems. Posse’s primary aim is to train these leaders of tomorrow.
  • Onward Academy leverages the Dual Enrollment fund. In partnership with an eligible postsecondary institution, this unique program minimizes the access, funding, and transportation barriers. Onward Academy has a cohort program model and classes are delivered at the participating high schools.
